Gen 3: Identify Bellows Pump Type
All Gen 3 and Gen 3+ units use a bellows-type dosing pump to meter insecticide from the cartridge into the mixing vessel.
Each dosing pump contains two small valves. Gen 3 and Gen 3+ units sold prior to 2016 used a dosing pump with valves known as “duckbills”.
Beginning in January 2016, and continuing today, all Gen 3+ units, and replacement bellows pump assemblies, use dosing pumps with valves known as a “poppets”.
If a dosing pump is not discharging insecticide, it is likely that the valves in the pump have failed. This article will help you identify if you have a dosing pump with duckbill valves or poppet valves.
Duckbill valves are no longer manufactured. Duckbill pumps cannot be converted to use poppet valves. If the unit has a failed duckbill pump, the entire pump must be replaced with a new poppet valve pump. If the unit has a poppet valve pump, the individual poppet valves can be replaced.
120V Gen 3+ units starting with serial number 406718 and higher were manufactured with poppet valve pumps.
120V Gen 3+ units with serial numbers between 300000 and 406717 were originally manufactured with duckbill valve pumps.
Since the dosing pump on a unit may have been previously replaced, it is important to confirm the valve type if repair is needed. While the valve type may be determined by disassembling the dosing pump, you can externally determine the valve type by either the bellows diameter or the date/model codes.
Diameter of the Bellows
Poppet Valve Pumps have a bellows diameter of 1 inch.
Duckbill Valve Pumps have a bellows diameter of 1/2 inch.
